Quotes from "The Monk who sold his Ferrari".

Here are some of the inspiring and motivating lines from the best seller "The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari". You should read this book once If you haven't read this book. Here is a review of it.                                     "The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari" Review.

Here are some of the powerful lines.

  • People who study others are wise but those who study themselves are enlightened.
  • Quick fixes don't work. All lasting inner changes requires time and effort. Persistence is the mother of change. I am not saying that it will take years to make a profound changes in your life. But to reach this destination, you must not get hung up to the outcome. Instead, enjoy the process of growth and expansion. Ironically, the less you focus on the end result, the quicker it will come.
  • I've learned that everything happens for a reason. Every event has a why and all the adversity teaches us a lesson. Never regret your past. Accept it as a teacher and move on.

  • Push yourself to do more and to experience more. Don't accept a life of mediocrity when you hold such infinite potential within the fortress of your mind. Dare to tap into your greatness.
  • Worry drains the mind of its power and, sooner or later, it injures the soul.
  • Success on outside means nothing unless you also have success within.
  • It's not what you will get out of the book that is so enriching - it is what the books will get out of you that will ultimately change your life.
  • Ancient rule of twenty-one: If you do anything for twenty-one days, it will be installed as a habit.

  • Self-mastery and consistent care of one's mind , body and soul are essential to finding one's highest self and living the life of one's dreams. How can you care for others even if you can not take care of yourself ? How can you do good even if you don't feel good ?
  • The quality of your life will come down to quality of your contribution.
  • People who study others are wise but those who study themselves are enlightened.

  • Take time to think. Discover your real reasons for being here and then have the courage to act on it.
  • "Investing in yourself is the best investment you will ever make. It will not only improve your life, it will also improve the life of all those around you".
  • Your "I CAN" is more important than your "IQ".

    • If you don't even know where you are going, how will you ever know when you get there?

    • Those who are truly enlightened know what they want out of life, emotionally, materially, physically and spiritually.  Clearly defined priorities and goals for every aspect of your life will serve a role similar to that played by a lighthouse, offering you guidance and refuge when the seas become rough.
    • Identify the things that are holding you back. Are you scared of speaking or do you have trouble in your relationships? Do you lack a positive attitude or do lack energy?  Make a written inventory of your weaknesses. Satisfied people are far more thoughtful than others. Take time to reflect on what it is that might be keeping you from the life you really want to know deep down you can have.  Once you have identified what your weaknesses are, the next step is to face them head on and attack your fears.
    • Fear is nothing more than a monster, you have created, a negative stream of consciousness.

    • Fear is a conditioned response: a life-sucking habit that can easily consume your energy, creativity and spirit if you are not careful. When fear rears its ugly head, beat it down quickly. The best way to do that is to do the thing you fear. Understand the anatomy of fear. It is your own creation. Like any other creation, it is just as easy to tear it down as it is to erect it.
    • You are what you think about all day long. You are also what you say to yourself all day long. The words you say to yourself affect your self image  and your self image determines what actions you take.
    • You truly can not afford the luxury of one negative thought - Not even one.
So, these were some of thoughts from this book that really captivated me.  I hope after reading this post you too will be inspired. Add these values to your life and feel the difference. That's the ultimate aim of this blog Pen Enchanted. Adding values to your life through books.💓

The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari

    "Everything is created twice,
first in the mind and then in reality."
Robin Sharma( The monk who sold his ferrari).

    Overview

The monk who sold his Ferrari by Robin Sharma is a very interesting self help book. The best past about this best seller is its practical approach towards optimism by nurturing some good habits within. It is not filled with fancy statements of  positive vibes which you will find in most of the self help books. It emphasizes  on building habits which ultimately leads you towards your goals and  changes your circumstances.

All these points have been depicted in the form of a story with the intention to keep you interested. The story is told from the perspective of one of the associates of the main character( Julian Mantle), who admires his work and aspires to be like him. Its basically two person talking over dinner, mainly Julian Mantle sharing his experiences.

One day, while case proceedings in the court, he suffered a severe a heart attack. After that he decided to leave the profession. He sold all his possessions including his luxurious Ferrari which has been highlighted, don't know why(maybe for the sake of publicity ;) ). He left to India somewhere in the Himalayan ranges in search of a meaningful life.

There he meets yogi Raman, who taught him the true meaning of life when Julian agreed to spread his knowledge once he gets back to his home town.
He was a completely changed man when he returned and later on shares his knowledge with one of his junior associate and readers.

    A word from Pen Enchanted

Well, the form in which this fable has been depicted may appear to be a kind of podcast but one can't neglect the fact that the author has explained some very important life lessons with practical approach. You may find it boring due to the kind of plot set-up it has .

    The Secret

The Secret by Rhonda Byrne is a kind of self help book which gives you positive vibes in abundance. This book is based on the belief of Law of Attraction.  The author has drawn attention towards the importance of self-belief, gratitude and various thought processes giving out various facts and examples which may be contradictory for some.

Self belief is definitely an important ingredient in achieving your goal but just having self belief alone isn't sufficient. Action, consistent efforts along with self belief sets the tone for moving forward in the direction of our goals.

    download pdf: click here

What I loved about this book was about the thought processes that it explained, which we needed to get going. Most of the problems can be solved just by having a right kind attitude, synchronized thought and planning out your day. Right kind of thought means focusing on your desires and not stressing about the things which you don't want.

Rhonda Byrne also focuses on the importance of Gratitude and how it makes a difference in one's life. This is an important value because most of the people are loosing this sense of gratitude these days. They often complain about what they don't have. They never appreciate the things and people around them, often realizing their importance after loosing them and thus spend rest of their life in regret.

The author explained in her own words saying "It is impossible to bring more into your life if you are feeling ungrateful about what you have. Why? Because the thoughts and the feelings which you emit as you feel ungrateful are all negative emotions. Whether it is jealousy, resentment, dissatisfaction, or feelings of not enough, those feelings cannot bring what you want".

This book definitely helps you get in a better frame by  encouraging and motivating you. However, there were some beliefs that I felt were exaggerated.  You can't be responsible for each and everything which happens in your life. The examples like millions of people born in poverty doesn't quite fit the reality. With this book you may go about chasing everything around you but remember that you can't control everything around.

    A word from Pen Enchanted

This book has proved to be a life changing and has transformed the lives of millions of people. If you are a kind of person who takes too much of stress, then I would recommend this book to you. It would help you in changing your thought process and leading towards a healthy life by positive emotions.
A person with rational thought process may find it to be exaggerated.

Overall, I would suggest reading this book once, as it provides a roadmap for a better thought process and a healthy life.
For those, who have already read this book, let me know in the comment section how you felt about this bestseller by Rhonda Byrne.

    Wise and Otherwise

Wise and Otherwise is a beautiful collection of 51 short story by Sudha Murty. She is the founder of the CSR wing of the Infosys, a famous IT company from India. Apart from that, she is a prolific writer and a professor. Her stories are drawn from the vast experience acquired by her lifetime service to the people.

Every story will amaze you as it touches one or other aspects of life, sometimes bringing forward the harsh realities of life. She writes about the ordinary people of India with not so ordinary life. Their stories will touch you and at times may fill your heart with heaviness and leave your mind thought provoked.
Everyone around us is suffering, either mentally (most of us these days) or physically .Its the ability with which they handle the situations, turns out to be a hero, villain, victim or sometimes an unsung hero.

After reading these stories, a thought which came to my mind was that, " The life of an ordinary  person is the most extraordinary one, of which, we know nothing about". Obviously, most of their life passes fighting against the odd situations. A poor father arranging dowry for his daughter's marriage. The same father getting harassed by his son and daughter-in-law in some other story. A  girl was tortured and murdered, the story airs that she lost her life due to stove-fire. Everyone knows the truth but ignores. The one who faces is the one who suffers, people around you will just show their sympathy and walk-off most of the time.

However, there were some inspirational stories as well, a thought provoking, i must say. One of the story that really amazed me was "Bonded by Blisleri". Often natural calamities like earthquakes are very destructive and are reason of pain and misery. I had never heard that somebodies life changed  in a positive way just because of an earthquake.(You may have heard but I, never.. never..). After reading the story, i was awestruck by the fact that how such a destructive natural calamity turns out to be a boon in someone's life.

Some stories also dealt with the principles of success and failure. Success may have many fathers but failure has none. Hard work is important but its the confidence which is one of the greatest asset which one must acquire.

With her stories, Sudha Murty has touched almost every section of daily life. At times, I just wondered how was she able to manage all her works. Managing official works, social works, her teaching obviously and then pocketed out some time for writing as well. Well, i am no one to judge but she is doing her work passionately and is a source of inspiration for today's generation.

I would that say that, a string of 51 stories may sound too many for some but you will find a glimpse of real, untouched life in her stories.  You will have a wonderful opportunity to learn some values and read some experiences. These things are pure gold  because no one teaches them.

Of Course I Love You...! Till I Find Someone Better

" Of Course I Love You
    Till I Find Someone Better.

    Everyone heard the first line
    but felt the second line."

College, Attendance, Results, Relationships Friendships, Hook-ups, Break-ups, Placements, Gossips.... and a never ending list of curiosity and drama. Yes, I know you can relate to it. This is something which most of the collage going students or those who were a part of it once can easily relate. The author (Durjoy Datta) has given a glimpse of all these, beautifully in his work Of Course I Love You Till I Find Someone Better. The plot is set  around DCE college somewhere in Delhi.

The story starts in quite a seductive manner thus, gives you the motivation to read further. It revolves around Debashish(Deb), who had a history of being in relationships and then finding a way out for a breakup. Charming personality and witty nature are some of the attributes, due to which he can attract any girl.

You may find the initial part a bit boring as the story seems here and there but not till another important character (Avantika) is introduced in the plot. Deb started loving loving Avantika even though he was in a relationship, ends up being in relation with Avantika in some dramatic manner. According to Deb, he was in true love this time. An earthquake of magnitude 8.6 on Richter scale can not shake their bond, such was the intensity of their love. Deb's life became great. He wasn't placed but somehow managed a job in government sector on his father's recommendation.

He was a improved person now and helped his office friend Amit to propose and marry the love of his life, Astha.

One day something surprising happened. Umm... Did Avantika came back? well, i would leave you with this suspense. It was a happy ending. Just a hint for you( blink of an eye)

I would end up saying that this book may attract you but if you are a kind of passionate reader then you may get disappointed.

Rich Dad Poor Dad....... Is it worth the hype?

Rich Dad Poor Dad  emphasizes the importance of financial knowledge in one's life. Most of the people work hard and focus on earning more and more money but they have no idea regarding investments and their expenditure. That's where the problem arises. The author has highlighted it in his own style, saying--
"  A person can be highly educated, professionally successful and financially illiterate. "

This book is about the author Robert Kiyosaki and his two dads-- His best friend's father (Rich dad) and his real father (Poor dad), the way  his two dads shaped his thoughts regarding money and investment. Most of his financial knowledge was taught to him by his rich dad. Poor dad tells him "I can't afford it" while the rich dad teaches him "How i can afford it" , thus reflecting their mindsets as those of rich and poor.

People specially middle class section should know the differences between assets and liabilities. Most of the middle class section buy liabilities thinking it to be an asset and thus gets trapped in the rat race. This has been beautifully explained in such a simplified way giving facts and examples that even a layman can easily relate to it.

Robert Kiyosaki sees one thing common in all of us including himself. We all have tremendous potential, yet the one thing that holds all of us back is some degree of self-doubt. Often in the real world, its not the smart who gets ahead but the bold.

Author's observatory skills are something that is worth notable. His appealing one-liners which he writes every now and then, just pumps you up. It created a deep impact on me when he said -to understand a person,  observe them closely when they play any kind of game. As,
"Games reflect behavior. They are instant feedback systems."

However, i would also like to mention that several statements were repeated thus making it monotonous at times. Most of the statements have been mentioned in the previous chapters already.
You will be excited a lot during the initial chapters but that excitement gets faded, as the book proceeds further through the chapters. Most of the greatest advises were in the last chapters of the book. So all I can say is , the author has saved his best for the last.

I  think that I have covered most of the points . This book is full of gyans (Indian way of saying knowledge). It will open new dimensions within you. Thus, it will make you more aware dealing with financial problems. I would say that this is a kind of book which you should, must read at least once.

Some eye catching one liners from the book are--

    • "There is gold everywhere. Most of the people are not trained to see it."
    • "To be truly rich, we need to be able to give as well as to receive."
    • "People lives are forever controlled by two emotions: fear and greed."
These were some of the impactful lines. I would be writing more of them in the next blog which you can use as a quotation. I hope you are loving my work and i would love to hear your suggestions regarding the next book which i should review.

    A Walk To Remember..........really?

"First you will smile, and then you will cry--
Don't say you haven't been warned".

With this authenticity,  "A Walk To Remember" marked its beginning as the author specified about this romantic genre in his own style. It is a cute love story with a bittersweet ending. There are very few novels which are written from the male's perspective and it is one of those.

The story revolves  around Landon Charter describing about his most beautiful experience when he was 17 years old. He fell in love with the most unexpected girl he would have ever imagined. Jamie Sullivan , a very spiritual, soft and kind hearted girl .She was a complete contrast to what Landon Charter was. Landon Charter used to tease Jamie Sullivan's father but still he fell in love with her.

So, when i said unexpected, then such was its extent and i think now you could feel it. The author has beautifully described every plot. That's the reason it becomes very easy to understand each and every scene. Well, i am still searching for some  of the points to criticize about .

If you are the one who loves romantic genre, then you will love this one but remember to keep your emotions under check, otherwise you may experience some tears in your eyes which the author has already mentioned.

There were few one-liners and some short paragraph which caught my attention.

    •  "The problem isn't  finding out where you are gonna go-its figuring out what you are gonna do once you get there ".
    • "Life, I've learned , is never fair. If people teach anything in school, that should be it."
    • "Love is always patient and kind. It is never jealous. Love is never boastful or conceited. It is never rude or selfish. It does not take offence and is resentful. Love takes no pleasure in other people's sin, but delight in truth. It is always ready to excuse, to trust, to hope, and to endure whatever  comes."

So , this was all about, A Walk To Remember. I hope it helps. Please give your feedbacks in the comment section. Also let me know which next bestseller you want me to review.

Flitered Review....The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck

The subtle art of not giving a fuck points out some of the censored truths of our life in the most ruthless way.

Obviously, the author doesn't give a fuck whether you liked it or not as facts aren't based on someone's likes or dislikes. This is the beauty of this book( you can call it a self-help guide).
Well, I will not recommend it for the gentleman kind of person who doesn't like abusive languages although its quite entertaining( blink of an eye).
My friend, this book pierces your soul with some bitter truth and thus makes you more aware of yourself, practically. It doesn't give you a fake console and at the same time guides you to deal with your shits. I really felt connected with last two chapters specially the way author illustrated about his adventure and loved the way in which importance of choosing a priority in life is explained.
Although there are certain units, where author doesn't get straight to the point and just keeps on revolving around the same topic.
In short, if you are the kind of person who easily gets confused, being unable to handle your emotions and finds it difficult to choose your priority. I think, you should read it once.

Here are some of the one-liners and short paragraphs which grabbed my attention.

    •  "The point isn't to get away from the shit.    The point is to find the shit you enjoy dealing with."
    •  "    The desire for more positive experience is itself a negative experience.            Paradoxically, the acceptance of one's negative experience is itself a positive experience".
    •  " Certainty is the enemy of growth . Uncertainty is the root of all progress and all growth. As the old adage goes, the man who believes he knows everything learns nothing".
    • " Absolute freedom, by itself, means nothing".
    • " Avoiding rejections gives us short-term pleasure by making us rudderless and directionless in the long term".
    • " No one trusts a yes man. The pain in our relationship is necessary to cement our trust in each other and produce greater intimacy".
    • " Commitment gives you freedom because you are no longer distracted by the unimportant and frivolous. It hones your attention and focus, directing them toward what is most effective at making you healthy and happy".

So, this was all about the book. I hope , you will find it helpful and would save your precious time.

This is for everyone who are going through tough times. This is to remind each one of us  specially to the youngsters  that no matter how tough it gets eventually it will pass.We will see better days. All we need to do is to be optimistic and to have,       a hope ðŸ’“.

Its easy to feel hopeful on a beautiful day , but there will be dark days ahead of us too.

There will be days when you will feel all alone and that's when hope is needed most.                         No matter how burried it gets or how lost you feel, you must promise to yourself that you will hold on to hope . Keep it alive ! We have to be greater than what we suffer.
Wish yourself to become hope , people need that and even if we fail ,
what better way is there to live ?

I know that we all think we are immortal. We are supposed to feel that way,we are graduating . The future is on and should be bright. But like the problems of life, what makes life isn't that it doesn't last forever , what makes it precious is that it ends.
I say it today to remind us that time is luck. So don't waste it living like something that doesn't have desire. Have an addiction to rise. Make your's life count for something. Fight for what matters to you, even if you fall short
what better way is there to live?

As we look around here today, at all the people who helped us, challenged us, even poked us, eventually they all helped us who we are. I know it feels like we are saying good bye to them at the end, but we'll carry a piece of each other into everything we do next to remind us of, who we are, and what we were meant to be .
I have had a great time with my lifetime memories till yet, and of course will have further. It is to every single moment of my life event. Though the sorrows were more than happiness, i miss all very much because it drives me to move  forward. Carrying only hopes in the hand.

That's why hope is needed more than anything else in life. 😇
